So Much More Than A Room

30 May

The countdown is on!  We only have about four weeks until Reefie Ann’s due date.  David and I are so ready to meet our sweet girl and hold her.

We’ve spent the last few months getting her little room all ready for her arrival.  At this point it’s definitely baby ready, but there are a couple of things left to do.  I wanted to share with you a little peek into her nursery– mainly because it’s my favorite room in our home right now and because several people have asked about it.

P1060750Reefie Ann’s room is filled with special little things– personal handmade gifts, fun vintage finds and a few things that have been passed down and borrowed in my family.

P1060740The essentials! An old wire basket holds Reefie Ann’s teeny tiny adorable newborn diapers!

P1060736Handmade cashmere birds from a dear friend

P1060747We’re still working on getting her dust ruffle made for the crib.

P1060735Fun little stuff and sweet gifts!

P1060744A little bit of arts and crafts made by Reefie Ann’s momma!  And my cross-stitched birth announcement that was made by my mom & her friends when I was a baby.

While all these preparations have been so much fun and exciting, I am reminded daily that the greatest preparations need to take place in my heart.  There’s so much more to be concerned with than preparing a room.  God has been so gracious to me as He stills my soul and directs my focus to Him.  Through my fears, worries and anxieties I have been challenged once again to confess, walk by faith and not by sight, look to the Lord for direction and rest in Him.  I have clung to this Bible verse these past few months.

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;  I will counsel you with My eye upon you.  Psalm 32:8

Resting in this promise has been such a gift from God.

Fun Stuff

30 Sep

I am currently working on a lengthy post to share in the next couple of weeks.  It’s going to be a lot of words and no pictures.  So, in the meantime I thought I would share with you some fun stuff– pictures from the past couple of weeks in my life.  These are all taken from my Instagram account, so again, I apologize if you have already seen these.

I woke up on my birthday and found these beautiful yellow balloons on my front porch.  My friend rocks!  Turning thirty-two felt so good.  I’m healthier than I’ve ever been and I feel years younger.

I love buying the $4 bouquet of flowers from my local grocery store, Kroger.  I put them in little happy vases and old glass bottles around my house.  They last a long time and make me happy!

Noel got a much needed haircut.  All her spots show up now!

We have welcomed fall with arms wide open around here.  Good bye summertime I’ll look forward to seeing you next year.  The day I took this picture it was crisp, cool and all-together incredible outside.

And just in time for that beautiful fall weather, my bike got repaired!  Woots!  I’ve been riding all around my neighborhood.  p.s.  I ride a boy’s bike.  It use to be my dad’s.  Oh well, it’s super comfy and smooth riding.

Look at this pretty, colorful salad!  It’s yumminess matched it’s beauty!

David bought me the bestest, prettiest mums in town.

Us from our wedding day.  Eight years ago.   I’m happier and love him more now than that day and you know, I just didn’t think it could get better than it was then, but it SO has!  Thanks be to God and His goodness and grace to us.

I got this awesomeness at a thrift store for $20!  I was flipping out when I saw it.  My heart literally started racing.  It’s an original piece of art and IT IS HUGE.  It now hangs on the wall in back of our sofa.  I’m sure glad someone decided to donate ‘this ‘ol thing’ to Goodwill.

Mini Home Tour

8 Mar

Almost eight years ago my husband and I got married and moved into a house.  Over the course of those eight years we have made that house our home.  Gallons upon gallons of paint, a lot of sweat, more elbow grease that Mr. Fast Lube owns and a load of creativity have gone into transforming this house into a space that feels so comfortable and perfect to us.  Here’s a little peek inside our front door:

My dog photo bombed so many of the pictures.

To get an idea of all the work that we have put into this house you should view the before and after photos on the MAKING HOME page of this website.  There’s a permanent link to it on the home page or just click below:

Word On

27 Feb

Six years ago David gave me some art supplies for Christmas– which included a couple of large blank canvases.  The largest canvas has been begging for my attention.  For several years now I have thought about and thought about what I wanted on that canvas.  One of the things I kept going back to was a white textured canvas with large wording in my handwriting in black paint.  So now all I need were the right words to paint.  After much contemplating, I finally got the inspiration I was waiting for.

Coffee, The Perfect Way

26 Jan

I’m not a coffee addict, but I do love a really good cup of coffee.  My definition of a really good cup of coffee includes a dainty cup and saucer, not too strong and not to weak freshly brewed pot of coffee, Chock full o’ Nuts ground coffee, creamer and sugar.

Today it’s rainy and chilly.  It’s a perfect day for a perfect cup so I treated myself!

Enjoy your day!

How Lovely Are Your Branches

Merry Christmas!

This is the latest I’ve ever waited to put up my Christmas cheer around the house.  Between having company, hosting events, fulfilling orders and battling some kind of terrible stomach virus I’ve just now been able to slow down and enjoy the decorating. Two years ago I decided to simplify my Christmas decorating–mainly because it can easily start looking like Hobby Lobby blew up in the house. I sat back one evening and thought about what I really like as far as Christmas decorating goes– the list quickly got narrowed down to simplicity and meaning. Well, two large tubs filled with ornaments and lots of sparkly stuff that I’ve collected over the past 7 years doesn’t really define simplicity and meaning. However a collection of around 20 of my favorite ornaments, a white porcelain nativity set, a jar full of vintage glass ornaments, my Christmas journal book, a few handmade items, a small tree and my Christmas candle does define simple and meaningful. Here’s a little peek at my home at Christmas.

Vintage ornaments that I found recently at an estate sale!

My mother-in-law gave me this vintage inspired Christmas plate.  It’s one of my favorite things!

Our little 3 foot tree filled with some of our favorite ornaments.

My all white nativity scene that my childhood neighbor gave me several years ago.

Home Giveaway WINNER

Stefanie Arnold

Stefanie shared with us that home is where family is–  It’s messy, but cozy and usually has happy sounds throughout it.  In the fall she and her family enjoy carving pumpkins, making food with the pumpkin guts (her words not mine : ) ), collecting leaves and making crafts with them, caramel dipped apples, sitting by fires and talking about thankfulness around the dinner table!  Sounds like wonderful ways to spend time during this season.

Thank you so much to all that entered the home giveaway and shared with me special things about your home and your traditions.  I enjoyed reading each one of them.  I hope you are enjoying an evening at home, I am!

True Random Number Generator picked comment number 3 for the winner of the home giveaway.
