So Much More Than A Room

30 May

The countdown is on!  We only have about four weeks until Reefie Ann’s due date.  David and I are so ready to meet our sweet girl and hold her.

We’ve spent the last few months getting her little room all ready for her arrival.  At this point it’s definitely baby ready, but there are a couple of things left to do.  I wanted to share with you a little peek into her nursery– mainly because it’s my favorite room in our home right now and because several people have asked about it.

P1060750Reefie Ann’s room is filled with special little things– personal handmade gifts, fun vintage finds and a few things that have been passed down and borrowed in my family.

P1060740The essentials! An old wire basket holds Reefie Ann’s teeny tiny adorable newborn diapers!

P1060736Handmade cashmere birds from a dear friend

P1060747We’re still working on getting her dust ruffle made for the crib.

P1060735Fun little stuff and sweet gifts!

P1060744A little bit of arts and crafts made by Reefie Ann’s momma!  And my cross-stitched birth announcement that was made by my mom & her friends when I was a baby.

While all these preparations have been so much fun and exciting, I am reminded daily that the greatest preparations need to take place in my heart.  There’s so much more to be concerned with than preparing a room.  God has been so gracious to me as He stills my soul and directs my focus to Him.  Through my fears, worries and anxieties I have been challenged once again to confess, walk by faith and not by sight, look to the Lord for direction and rest in Him.  I have clung to this Bible verse these past few months.

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;  I will counsel you with My eye upon you.  Psalm 32:8

Resting in this promise has been such a gift from God.

Fun Stuff

30 Sep

I am currently working on a lengthy post to share in the next couple of weeks.  It’s going to be a lot of words and no pictures.  So, in the meantime I thought I would share with you some fun stuff– pictures from the past couple of weeks in my life.  These are all taken from my Instagram account, so again, I apologize if you have already seen these.

I woke up on my birthday and found these beautiful yellow balloons on my front porch.  My friend rocks!  Turning thirty-two felt so good.  I’m healthier than I’ve ever been and I feel years younger.

I love buying the $4 bouquet of flowers from my local grocery store, Kroger.  I put them in little happy vases and old glass bottles around my house.  They last a long time and make me happy!

Noel got a much needed haircut.  All her spots show up now!

We have welcomed fall with arms wide open around here.  Good bye summertime I’ll look forward to seeing you next year.  The day I took this picture it was crisp, cool and all-together incredible outside.

And just in time for that beautiful fall weather, my bike got repaired!  Woots!  I’ve been riding all around my neighborhood.  p.s.  I ride a boy’s bike.  It use to be my dad’s.  Oh well, it’s super comfy and smooth riding.

Look at this pretty, colorful salad!  It’s yumminess matched it’s beauty!

David bought me the bestest, prettiest mums in town.

Us from our wedding day.  Eight years ago.   I’m happier and love him more now than that day and you know, I just didn’t think it could get better than it was then, but it SO has!  Thanks be to God and His goodness and grace to us.

I got this awesomeness at a thrift store for $20!  I was flipping out when I saw it.  My heart literally started racing.  It’s an original piece of art and IT IS HUGE.  It now hangs on the wall in back of our sofa.  I’m sure glad someone decided to donate ‘this ‘ol thing’ to Goodwill.

Birthday Date

1 Sep

My birthday is not until Tuesday, but we planned to spend the Friday before it celebrating.  David told me we could do whatever I wanted that day…the sky is the limit…not really, but I knew what he meant.  I was happy that I remembered my camera so I could document in pictures our day.  Here’s what I picked to do for my 32nd birthday.

Started the morning off with homemade Blueberry Banana Smoothies

A three mile morning walk

Shoes!

On our way to Memphis!

Awesome skies above on the Hernando de Soto Bridge

Trolley Stop Market

Vegan Garden Wrap, fruit cup & homemade salsa

Thrifting!

…more thrifting…

Bowling!

All three games looked something like this. He beat me every time…ON MY BIRTHDAY DATE! No mercy.

I was glad to find good color balls in the sizes we use. Important stuff, people, important stuff. *note, black swirly ball belongs to David. It even has his initials engraved on it. He’s fancy.

We had supper at Jason’s Deli where David gave me this! I AM SO PUMPED!

This year going into my birthday feels so different that the past several years.  There’s a sense of hope that I have never felt before– and THAT is an incredible gift!

Consider It Summer

1 May

Last year when summer time rolled around I found it very difficult to keep up the blog posts.  Well, consider it summer because I’m currently having the same problem.  I have so many things I’d like to blog about: new paint color, thrift store finds, yummy foods, antique store shopping, big lessons learned, house guests from California and lots of other fun stuff.  I simply just can’t get around to getting it all together.

In the meantime I’ll share a beautiful song with you, a place to go visit and an excerpt from a book I’m reading.

My new, favorite song for the moment:  Set Free by All Sons and Daughters

Local people, GO TO OUR LOCAL THRIFT STORE:  Sacks Thrift Avenue

Tucked away behind the liquor store/car wash on Broadway in West Memphis is one of my favorite little places to visit in town.  Sacks Thrift Avenue is a great thrift store with lots of surprises waiting for me to find!  I got these metal chairs there last week!   The people that work at Sacks Thrift Avenue are so nice, their prices are incredible, they get new stuff all the time.  Go there and support their business!  Find them on Facebook here:  Sacks Thrift Avenue

From Seeing and Savoring Jesus Christ by John Piper:

“Everyone can read the stories of Jesus and “see” the portraits painted by the words of those who knew him.  But not everyone sees truth and beauty and infinite value.  Some only see myth.  Some see foolishness.  Some see offense.  “Seeing they do not see.”  It is as though a child should look at a Michelangelo and prefer a comic strip.  When you see something as true and beautiful and valuable, you savor it.  That is, you treasure it.  You cherish it and admire and prize it.  Spiritual seeing and spiritual savoring are so closely connected that it would be fair to say:  If you don’t savor Christ, you haven’t seen Christ for who he is.  If you don’t prize him above all things, you haven’t apprehended his true worth.”

Mini Home Tour

8 Mar

Almost eight years ago my husband and I got married and moved into a house.  Over the course of those eight years we have made that house our home.  Gallons upon gallons of paint, a lot of sweat, more elbow grease that Mr. Fast Lube owns and a load of creativity have gone into transforming this house into a space that feels so comfortable and perfect to us.  Here’s a little peek inside our front door:

My dog photo bombed so many of the pictures.

To get an idea of all the work that we have put into this house you should view the before and after photos on the MAKING HOME page of this website.  There’s a permanent link to it on the home page or just click below:
